Podcast host makes Tottenham defensive ace start claim for weekend fixture vs West Ham

Opinion- Postecoglou's stubbornness could spell the end of Tottenham star that club 'cant afford' to lose.

There had been a lot of calls going around about Cristian Romero along the international break owing to the Argentine defender’s inconsistency at the heart of the park. The 26-year-old has been an integral part of everything that Ange Postecoglou is building at White Hart Lane; however, the World Cup winner hasn’t come back carrying his mojo into the new season, and that could soon lead to a reality check, especially if he keeps the current run of form.

On the other hand, Spurs last winter arrival, Radu Drăgușin, has been absolutely phenomenal in the games he played for his nation along the summer’s European Championships and the following two international breaks, and a fair section of Spurs faithful want him to be handed his opportunity when the Premier League resumes and Ange Postecoglou’s side hosts West Ham.

Drăgușin unlikely to start against West Ham

Wenham: Drăgușin sending-off ruined his chance

However, John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, doesn’t expect the Romanian to start against the Hammers after his sending off just seven minutes into the North Londoners’ 3-0 win against Qatar in the UEFA Europa League. He insists that Radu didn’t stake his claim when the position was up for grabs.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:

“I think the issue is that Drăgușin had an opportunity to come in and stake his claim. However, he got sent off when he did. I had been suggesting before that happened that maybe he could come in and have a run in the side, as I was impressed by him against Newcastle.

“But after his stupid sending-off, he messed that up for himself. I do expect him to come back into the team relatively soon for the Europa League, now that he has served his ban. And it will be up to him to impress and not do anything stupid again.”

Drăgușin hasn’t had his share of extended runs since joining the Lilywhites; however, he does have the opportunity to prove his credentials in the Europa League and especially to grab Romero’s place if he continues his current form.
