Tottenham Hotspur have a plethora of talent at their disposal at the moment, and Daniel Levy, along with the chefs at Hotspur Way, have to ensure that all of the players achieve significant strides in their development. And one of the players that has been progressing in the background is Lilywhites Academy graduate Alfie Devine.

The 20-year-old has been highly regarded among the supporters at White Hart Lane, and that has translated into first-team appearances after making a couple of senior appearances in the FA Cup. And while the game time has been difficult to come by in senior football, the club hasn’t backed out of putting their minutes into his development behind the scenes.

Since Arne Postecoglou joined the North Londoners, the player has been sent on loans to Port Vale and Plymouth Argyle as he gains valuable game time in men’s football before being given a run-in at N17. And this season, Daniel Levy chose to send him off to Belgium’s Junior Pro League side KVC Westerlo.

And while a stint in Belgium is just another keystone in his development into the senior side, they are steadily introducing him into the senior side. Alfie has only made four appearances for the Belgian side; they are focused on gradually giving him minutes in the first team, preparing him for a future role in North London.

Could Alfie Devine break through at Tottenham next season?

Het Nieuwsblad (via SportWitness) recently spoke to the player about Tottenham and their involvement when he is away on loan, where the player revealed how the Lilywhites performance manager, Andy Scoulding, made a visit to Westerlo to monitor Alefie’s progress on the road.

He said:

“Andy Scoulding was recently in Westerlo. After the match, we had a long chat. It’s nice that they follow you so closely. That involvement is motivating. Scoulding is a professional; he has already worked at Rangers, Valencia, Olympiacos, and Liverpool, so he knows what he is talking about. If I need something, they are always there.”

While his current focus lies in Belgium, Alfie has a big future ahead of him, and it is great to see the club going beyond their way to ensure he takes strides in his game.
