Tottenham planning to tie down five-cap international to new contract amid Real Madrid interest

Tottenham star Pedro Porro is on Real Madrid’s radar

Pedro Porro has been among the few consistent players at N17 since Ange Postecoglou became the Tottenham Hotspur boss last summer.

Initially signed on loan from Sporting CP in January 2023, the Spanish right-back took some time to settle down in the Premier League before becoming a regular fixture at the back for the Lilywhites. Pedro Porro was a key performer for Ange Postecoglou’s side last term, helping them finish fifth in the Premier League and clinch a Europa League spot in the process.

It would not be a stretch to claim him as arguably Spurs’ best player in an otherwise mixed start to the 2024/25 season. The 25-year-old returned to the Spanish national team and delivered strong displays in the recent UEFA Nations League fixtures.

However, Porro’s performances for both club and country haven’t gone unnoticed, with European champions Real Madrid keeping tabs on him owing to Dani Carvajal’s ACL injury. He is one of the names on their wishlist to succeed Carvajal, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season following an ACL rupture earlier this month.

According to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Tottenham are wary of Real Madrid’s growing interest in the five-cap Spain international. Spurs are not perplexed by Los Blancos’ attraction toward Porro and are planning to fend off their interest by tying their star down to a new long-term contract in the New Year.

Porro’s current deal at the Hotspur Way runs until 2028 (Transfermarkt), so while Tottenham find themselves in a great negotiating position, they want to increase the player’s value further by agreeing on fresh terms.

The Don Benito-born star, formerly of Manchester City, has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League. With his passing, vision, creativity and ability to operate as an inverted full-back, he brings a different dimension to Spurs’ attack under Big Ange. Porro is also reliable defensively which makes him an asset to have in the squad.

Real Madrid are searching for a long-term heir to the legendary Carvajal, and Porro’s recent showings for Spain in the Nations League is only likely to have strengthened their resolve to sign the Spurs right-back.

That said, the North London side now faces a tough ask to keep hold of Porro from the lure of Real.
