Ryan Mason remains at the club after talks concluded between him and Anderlecht.
Ahead of his side’s next game, Ange Postecoglou spoke about the man that is Spurs through and through.
Ange Postecoglou speaks on Ryan Mason staying at Tottenham
Ahead of his side’s home Premier League game against West Ham this Saturday, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou discussed, among other things, Ryan Mason’s future at the club.
“Ryan is someone who sees himself as one day taking that opportunity. Ryan is doing a great job for us here but if that’s something they want to explore then I think that’s the right thing. I’m happy with Ryan, he is happy and committed.”
Part of Postecoglou’s coaching staff at the club, Mason was recently in talks with Belgian side Anderlecht for the head coach role before the two parties decided not to go ahead with the proposition.
Turning to football coaching after having to retire early, the 33-year-old has been at the North London club in a coaching capacity since 2018. He has been the interim first team coach on two separate occasions, which came about after the dismissal José Mourinho in 2021 and then Cristian Stellini in 2023.
Only a matter of time
Mason has been in coaching for over six years now; it’s only a matter of time before he gets a leading coaching job somewhere.
Before that, it won’t be surprising if Spurs were to turn to Mason for an interim charge once again this season given how things are panning out for Postecoglou.
Maybe this time he can make a case to get the Spurs job full time? Third time’s the charm?
