Tottenham have been very aggressive with their buy-young policy in the recent transfer markets.
One of the many teenage sensations Spurs were linked to in the summer was Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu, who has quickly become a hot prospect in European football and could have been a bargain pick-up in the summer.
However, it’s going to cost Tottenham a bit more going forward if they do decide to pounce on him.
Tottenham-linked Patrick Dorgu has signed new Lecce contract but could leave next summer anyway
As reported by Fiorentina News, Danish defender Patrick Dorgu has extended his contract at Serie A side Lecce by two more years but is still likely to leave the club next summer.
The teenage left-back has been garnering interest of European heavyweights in the past months and has been likened to Gareth Bale because of his attacking capabilities from the back.
Spurs, Liverpool, and Man United have been linked with him, while Napoli have also been monitoring his situation.
Dorgu’s previous Lecce contract was worth €120k per year and ran until June 2027. His new deal fetches him €650k per year and will run until June 2029.
Valued by Transfermarkt at €12 million, the Denmark international has one goal from six Serie A appearances this season.
Dorgu will just cost more
Lecce extending Dorgu’s contract is a very routine asset-protection manoeuvre. They now stand to get a tad bit more for him next summer than they would have before.
Of course, it will probably be in Dorgu’s best interests to not jump to a big-name Premier League side right away and ply his trade at an intermediate club for a few years; he’s still too young and we have seen how these moves, when arriving before time, can derail careers.
Tottenham will have a spot at left-back on offer for Dorgu next summer, given Ben Davies is ageing and expected to depart soon and Sergio Reguilón is all but gone.
