Bold substitutions and a new Spurs hero: Three Talking points as Tottenham down Aston Villa.

Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son returned to action with style against West Ham United in the 4-1 Premier League victory. Spurs bounced back immediately after the loss to Brighton & Hove Albion before the October international break with this victory.

West Ham scored the first goal of the game which shocked the faithful home crowd at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. Nevertheless, Ange Postecoglou’s team did not disappoint their fans for long as they dominated the game and showed clinical finishing.

Son returned to action after a hamstring injury forced him to miss the games against Manchester United, Ferencvaros and Brighton. Spurs need their captain in top form after facing a mixed start to the season as the congested period commences.

The Lilywhites have won seven out of their first 11 games in all competitions, suffering three defeats and a draw. Spurs have to become more consistent to achieve their season’s ambition and avoid the same problems they faced last season.

Squawka Live revealed that Son made five shots in the goalscoring performance before his 70th-minute substitution for forward Timo Werner. The 32-year-old dominated the left flank and made 10 touches in the opposition box, creating two chances for his teammates.

Furthermore, he enjoyed 84% passing accuracy with 31 passes and 43 touches overall, winning one ground duel during the game. The South Korean international’s 60th-minute goal sealed the game for the Lilywhites and allowed him to build his match fitness.

Tottenham will face AZ Alkmaar in the midweek in the Europa League followed by the Crystal Palace game next weekend. The fixture congestion will continue until the November international break and the Spurs need to build on this emphatic victory.

The Lilywhites cannot afford the same inconsistency that they showed at the start of the season and Son has an important leadership role to make sure that will not happen. The 32-year-old is earning £190,000 per week through his current contract which expires at the end of this season. Son could prove to the upper hierarchy that there is a lot left in his prime that deserves a contract extension.
