International agreement bears fruit as Tottenham star rediscovers magical touch

Bold substitutions and a new Spurs hero: Three Talking points as Tottenham down Aston Villa.

Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways as they triumphed over West Ham at White Hart Lane following an emphatic performance to earn three points on a 4-1 score line. As Ange Postecoglou’s side returned to winning ways, the North Londoners also celebrated another return as South Korean skipper Heung-Min Son returned for the Lilywhites.

Son has been a missing figure in the Spurs dressing room since the club’s 3-0 win against Qarabag on 26th September in the Europa League, where he picked up a thigh problem. While it initially looked like a knock, it was a bit more serious than that as what it initially looked, and he was forced to miss out on five games.

However, in a much-awaited return, the 32-year-old started the game from the get-go when the Lilywhites played against West Ham at White Hart Lane yesterday. And it didn’t take long to see everything that the North Londoners have been missing as he started dominating that left flank. He also netted Spurs fourth at the hour mark and could have scored another where the ball brushed inside of the post but didn’t find the back of the net.

Injury break beneficial for Son

Injury break helped Son

It looks like Son needed that break—a time to get away for a bit, switch off from the game. The fact that Spurs came to an agreement with South Korea to keep them from taking him also says a lot about how the club ensured that the 32-year-old finds some time away from the pitch to fully recover.

And it was a blessing in disguise as Son looked back to his silky self against the Hammers as he showed exactly why he is an important figure at N17.

Speaking after the game on Saturday, the player himself admitted the importance of rest and recovery. He said to TNT Sports (via. BBC):

“Sometimes injury time [out] can be good; we have such a busy time that two or three weeks were perfect to recharge myself, and today I was feeling really, really good.”

Tottenham fans would now be hoping that Son can carry this freshness into the upcoming games.
