Tottenham are interested in signing Lille striker Jonathan David
Tottenham Hotspur have changed their recruitment strategy since Ange Postecoglou took over the reins at White Hart Lane last year.
The north London club’s decision to sign highly-rated young talents with massive potential aligns perfectly with how Ange Postecoglou wants his team to play. But there is also the idea of adding relatively more established players to create a proper blend of youth and experience in the squad that can win trophies in the future.
According to a report from Italian outlet Tutto Juve, Tottenham are interested in signing LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David.
One of the highly acclaimed strikers in Europe, Jonathan David has made a rollicking start to the new season. The Canada international has netted eight times and provided two assists in 13 matches across all competitions. However, he has decided against renewing his current deal at Lille, which expires at the end of the season (Transfermarkt).

David’s performances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, coupled with his contract situation, has put several European clubs on red alert. Aston Villa are understood to be the main contender to Spurs for the striker’s signature, while there is also interest from clubs such as Barcelona, Juventus and Inter Milan.
The aforementioned report adds that a potential deal will involve some complications as the 24-year-old expects a ‘huge salary’ at his next club while the agent commission is also expected to be sizeable.
This could be one of the factors why it will be difficult for Tottenham to hatch a deal for David on a free transfer from Lille in the summer. If they decide to sign him in the winter transfer window due to over-reliance on Dominic Solanke, competition for the Lille hotshot is expected to be high again.
Spurs are planning to manage Richarlison’s fitness before selling him at the end of the season. His unreliability in terms of injury record and lack of productivity means the Lilywhites have had enough and remain keen on offloading the Brazilian. This decision could accelerate their plans to recruit a striker as early as January, with David high on the club’s list of targets.

It will be interesting to watch whether Spurs trying to bring David to N17 in a cut-price deal in the winter transfer window or else wait until he becomes a free agent.
