Tottenham have made a perfect start to their Europa League campaign this season
Tottenham Hotspur have made a perfect start to their Europa League campaign, winning the first two games whilst scoring five and conceding only one in the process. They dispatched Qarabag FK 3-0 at home before overcoming Ferencvaros 2-1 on the road.
After returning back to winning ways in the Premier League by smashing London counterparts West Ham United 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday which helped banish some haunting memories from the capitulation at Brighton and Hove Albion prior to the international break, Ange Postecoglou’s will be in Europa League action against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday evening.

Speaking to the media ahead of Tottenham’s home clash against AZ Alkmaar, Ange Postecoglou discussed the competition itself and how he thinks his team have performed so far.
“We’ve started the competition really well. Whenever you play away in Europe, it’s a different challenge. We’ve exposed our younger players to European football, too, which is a positive,” Postecoglou said in his pre-match conference (h/t Football London).
“We weren’t in Europe last year and I thought we missed it. We’ve started the competition well but there’s still a long way to go. One step at a time for us.”
Indeed, we have started the Europa League competition very well and it is now about building momentum. As aforementioned by our gaffer, we have to take one game at a time and achieve an automatic qualification berth to the knockout rounds.
Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar will likely provide a sterner challenge than Qarabag and Ferencvaros have done to date. In front of our loyal and passionate fans, Spurs players will feel confident of getting another win in the bag and inching closer to qualification for the next round.
If Big Ange’s men can beat AZ on Thursday, that will put us in a commendable position ahead of difficult fixtures against Galatasaray, AS Roma and Rangers. Facing them will also be real tests, and will determine just how far the Lilywhites could go in this European tourney.

As far as the injury news is concerned, both Richarlison and Wilson Odobert are in contention for the midweek game after returning to training. Son Heung-min, meanwhile, will miss out with a knock picked up in Spurs’ 4-1 win over West Ham last weekend.
