Tottenham Hotspur were on the end of a much-important 1-0 win yesterday as the North Londoners kept their three-match perfect record in the Europa League this season following the win against AZ at White Hart Lane. It looks like a game of narrow margins; however, Spurs could fairly have found a few more if they weren’t for some bad final decisions.
However, it is more important for the club to gain those valuable three points.
That being said, the highlight that would worry Tottenham supporters from yesterday’s game is around Lucas Bergvall after the youngster hobbled off the pitch, and despite the win, another injury blow would have been an unfair uppercut following a series of jabs that Spurs have taken off late.
The Swede midfielder was forced off in the 73rd minute after starting the game in what was another fairly impressive performance from the teenager.
Postecoglou remains cautious as he speaks on Bergvall injury
And Ange Postecoglou, speaking in his post-match press conference, relayed the injury concerns, insisting that the player was just cramping and it doesn’t look anything more serious. He said:
He’s alright, he’s just cramping up. Again, he hasn’t played a lot. I thought both him and Archie worked awfully hard tonight and, like I said, they’re 18 and so for us it’s pretty exciting that they’re making an impact at the moment and knowing that there is so much more of them to come. I think these European games are a great foundation for them. It’s a different challenge and I think you see growth in them every time they go out there. Apart from tiredness he’s ok.
For Tottenham, it is important to manage the minutes of these young players in a way where they are building fitness and not laying any further threats to the extent where the teenager’s body can be stretched. A mismanagement could easily lead to injury problems that could derail any progress.
Bergvall is highly acclaimed among the supporters; however, it is easy to forget he is only a teenager, and he needs time and space to adapt to the senior game.
