Mikey Moore dazzled for Tottenham vs AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League
Mikey Moore put in a sizzling display on Thursday night as Tottenham Hotspur beat AZ Alkmaar 1-0 at home in the UEFA Europa League.
Richarlison scored the solitary goal of the game from the penalty spot in the second half to help Spurs make it three wins out of three in the Europa League, but it was Mikey Moore who took centre stage after being handed a start by gaffer Ange Postecoglou.
He was one of the youngsters who got an opportunity to impress on the night and the winger took it with both hands. Starting on the right flank, the teenage sensation gave another glimpse of his top potential. Such was his performance that James Maddison likened Moore to Brazil international Neymar Jr. after the game, describing the young gun as a ‘fearless’ talent.
Head coach Ange Postecoglou was also delighted by the Tottenham academy starlet’s performance against AZ Alkmaar, admitting the player is “working hard every day and wanting to develop.”
“He was exciting, you cannot deny it. I love the way Mikey is taking it all in his stride. He’s working hard every day and wanting to develop. He’s understanding this is a journey. It’s exciting. He’s developing really well. I had no fear throwing him in. I see him every day and he’s a great young player,” Postecoglou said in his post-match press conference (h/t Football London).
Although Moore missed a glorious opportunity to score from a whipped Timo Werner cross in the first half, the winger never let his shoulder down and continued giving the AZ Alkmaar defenders a torrid time with his movement, pace and dribbling skills.
He didn’t get a goal or an assist but the Southwark-born talent’s directness and trickery provided great joy to the Hotspur Way faithful. AZ Alkmaar defenders couldn’t live up to the Spurs winger’s movement and flair, and while his impact was limited on the right flank in the first half, Moore switched to the opposite side after the break and starred.
With the opportunities he has got so far in the first team, Moore has shown already that he is a sublime talent. He is actually now starting to have an impact in the games, too, which is quite unbelievable for a player who is only 17.

The academy kid is doing good work in training and during matches, and it is just a matter of time before Moore becomes a regular fixture in Big Ange’s team.
