Europa League has been a place where the Lilywhites have taken the freedom to express themselves and give young players some time under their belt, and it has so far been paying off for Ange Postecoglou as the North Londoners continue their perfect European run after their win against AZ Alkmaar yesterday night.
Postecoglou acknowledges Werner lack of confidence
While it was a blazing victory, there were a few moments that got supporters murmuring at White Hart Lane. One of those talking points came in Timo Werner’s lack of clinical finish in front of goal, with the German international missing out on a lot of good goal-scoring opportunities in the game. The criticisms follow the RB Leipzig loanee from his outing against Brighton before the international break, which had a similar individual storyline as yesterday.
And reciprocating his difficulty on the pitch, the Greek-born head coach chose to introduce Brennan Johnson at halftime to bring a more clinical and pacey presence in the forward line.
And in his post-game presser, the Australian was quizzed about the decision to change Werner at halftime, where he acknowledged the German international’s lack of confidence.

Speaking via. BBC Match of the Day, the former Celtic coach said:
“Timo was getting in good areas but he is obviously low on confidence. With Brennan on the bench I thought it was a good time to get him on and put Mikey [Moore] on the left, he’s more comfortable out there.”
Is Werner’s time at Spurs coming to an end?
Timo Werner is struggling at White Hart Lane; there has been a similar line of connections to his time at Chelsea off late, and while it is costing Tottenham time and time again, how long can that last before the chiefs within the cubicles of Tottenham Way take a call? He has to be one of the more experienced figures on the pitch, and rather he is the most doomy-and-gloomy presence in the eleven.
