Tottenham honcho Daniel Levy keeps 'huge fee' aside to bring in a marquee player in the winter transfer window.

Red Star Belgrade’s teenage sensation Andrija Maksimovic is on the radar of Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have recruited really well since Ange Postecoglou’s arrival in 2023, placing great emphasis on poaching young talents rather than going for established stars.

This has been mirrored by the acquisitions of Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Micky van de Ven, Brennan Johnson, and Wilson Odobert during the last few transfer windows. The transfer recruitment strategy is set to continue and ahead of the winter transfer window, it has just emerged that the Lilywhites are keeping close tabs on a promising Red Star Belgrade talent.

According to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Tottenham have joined the transfer race for the highly-rated Red Star Belgrade talent Andrija Maksimovic. Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United, plus several top European clubs, are vying for the teenage midfielder’s signature.

Having come through the youth ranks of the Red Star Belgrade, Andrija Maksimovic is on course to enjoy his breakout campaign in the senior side. His stock has soared after starting two of Red Star’s three Champions League matches—against Inter Milan and AS Monaco. He has already won two caps for Serbia, with many clubs viewing the midfielder as ‘one of the top young prospects in world football.’

The aforementioned report adds any club wanting to agree on a deal with Red Star Belgrade for the two-cap Serbian international must wait until next summer when he turns 18. Maksimovic, who has already been compared to Colombia hero James Rodriguez, is turning heads with his performances and could be on the move at the end of the season.

The Serbian wonderkid has been described by Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout as an attacking midfielder with a ‘very high football IQ’ who’s ‘extremely elegant’ in the dribble and boasts an ‘excellent first touch’. He has shown glimpses of his potential in the Champions League outings against Inter and Monaco this season, which has further alerted the European bigwigs.

For all his early promise, Maksimovic and his agents will be wary that going from Red Star Belgrade to most of the top European clubs’ starting XI would be too big of an ask for someone who is still learning his trade and is inexperienced at the highest level.

This could give Spurs an edge over their rivals, given Big Ange is building the squad with young talents. There is an identity, structure and playing style in place at the club, with the Greek-Australian tactician grooming the academy kids and freshly acquired talents from different clubs.

That said, Spurs must continue monitoring the developments of Maksimovic before deciding whether to table a bid or not next summer.
