Ange Postecoglou Reflects on Spur’s Mistakes That Allowed Palace Victory

published :

Ange Postecoglou calls for need of 'composure' as Tottenham show inconsistent side at Selhurst Park.

Prior to Sunday’s match, Crystal Palace were in search of their first victory of the season, and they found it against Tottenham, thanks to a decisive goal from Jean-Philippe Mateta in the 31st minute. Ange Postecoglou believes his Tottenham side “fell into the trap” of allowing their 1-0 defeat to the struggling Palace to “turn into a battle.”

Mateta’s first-half strike secured Palace’s first league win of the season and highlighted Spurs’ inconsistent domestic form. Palace defended resolutely, pressing Spurs into a series of mistakes in a scrappy encounter that lacked quality, particularly from the visitors.

Postecoglou emphasised that his team needed to be more “clear-headed” and impose their game on Palace.

Small mistakes cost Tottenham the game

Ange Postecoglou stated in the post match Interview via Youtube that Tottenham struggled to cope with the game’s rhythm during their defeat to Crystal Palace, remarking, “There was lots of stop-starting and standing around. We didn’t deal with that well at all and failed to get to grips with the nature of what was transpiring out there. It turned into a bit of a battle, and they handled it better than we did.”

He emphasised the need for composure, saying:

“It was a game where we needed to remain composed and not fall into the trap of playing the game Palace wanted. This was a big match for them, and they were always going to be desperate for a win.”

However, Ange was most bothered about players just Standing

Postecoglou expressed his frustration with the performance, noting, “I noticed a lot of standing around today, which I dislike,” and reinforced his desire for the team to maintain their identity: “I don’t want to play them at their own game; my aim is to have our players adjust to playing our style.” He acknowledged that some elements were beyond their control, as he anticipated Palace’s aggressive approach.
