Ex-Spurs scout claims ‘fortunate’ Tottenham star got off easy following Crystal Palace error

Micky van de Ven Tothelaneandback

Tottenham Hotspur endured another frustrating afternoon in the Premier League as Ange Postecoglou’s side struggled to make opportunities count against a team that lay at the bottom of the English top flight; however, it could have gotten worse with Micky van de Ven, who could’ve been sent off for his foul.

The Lilywhites suffered defeat against Crystal Palace at Shelhurst Park yesterday, with Jean Philippe Mateta scoring the solitary goal of the game following what was a beautiful flick from Spurs target Eze.

Former Tottenham scout Bryan King has been vocal about the incident involving Dutch defender Micky van de Ven, claiming he was ‘fortunate’ to stay on the pitch following his foul, as he expressed shock at the 23-year-old getting done by on pure pace.

Micky appeared to be the last man tracking back when Ismaila Sarr was through on goal in the second half, and the Dutch international pulled him back to draw a foul. He only saw yellow for what should have been a red card, citing what happened with William Saliba against Bournemouth last weekend.

The chain of inconsistencies from PGMOL played in Spurs hands today, but it could play against the Lilywhites next time around.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, King said:

“He was fortunate. I thought he could have been sent off. I was shocked to see him get done for pace. However, he was a yard slow to react.

“By the time he did react, it looked as though he was the last man. I thought Tottenham were fortunate that he only got given a yellow card.

“He got caught square and one ball put Spurs under pressure. Palace looked as though they wanted it far more than Tottenham all afternoon.”

Tottenham and Van de Ven were very lucky with that decision and Ange Postecoglou wouldn’t have had anything to complain about if that decision left them with ten men and it could have been an ugly afternoon from there.
