Ex-scout raises Tottenham Carabao Cup hopes as Manchester City challenge awaits.

Tottenham skipper Son Heung-min could be fit to face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup

Tottenham Hotspur’s two-game winning run across all competitions came to an end on Sunday at the hands of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The game was another example of how alarmingly inconsistent we have been under Ange Postecoglou this season. Spurs were riding high on the back of wins over West Ham United and AZ Alkmaar, and on current form and quality of the squad, should have blown away Crystal Palace.

However, the Eagles gave the Tottenham players a reality check by beating them 1-0. Up next for Ange Postecoglou’s side is the Carabao Cup round of 16 tie against Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Before the Palace game, Postecoglou had delivered an injury update on Son Heung-min. The Tottenham skipper has missed the last two games due to precaution after having only returned in the 4-1 win over West Ham. Big Ange had hinted the 32-year-old should be fine for the game against Man City.

Now, Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King boldly claims Son Heung-min will start for Tottenham against Pep Guardiola’s men as long as he is fully fit.

“If Son is fit he will definitely return,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.

“Postecoglou needs to play what he feels is his best team. If these players can’t be motivated to play against the English champions at home, then I don’t know what to say. I mean what more do you want?

“Son will start as long as he is fit, which means Mikey Moore will drop out of the team.”

Son Heung-min has often been Manchester City’s bane.

After the blip at Palace, Spurs could certainly do with a boost heading into the cup game in midweek. Son is arguably Spurs’ best player and having him on the pitch makes a huge difference—from both attacking point of view and leadership skills. The South Korean international was desperately missed in the defeat to Palace when we lacked invention and flair to unlock their rigid defence.

Therefore, the 32-year-old’s involvement against City will be huge and he could be the difference between Spurs advancing to the next round or being dumped out of the Carabao Cup. That being said, Big Ange should only hand our skipper a start if he is fully fit. If he isn’t, it will be best to use Son off the bench.
