Tottenham are monitoring the performances of AC Milan star Tijjani Reijnders
Tottenham Hotspur have done some savvy transfer business in recent years, recruiting young and dynamic talents with high potential. Now, it is up to head coach Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff to nurture those talents and help them realize their true potential at N17.
A lot of credit goes to Daniel Levy for changing the recruitment strategy – opting to invest smartly rather than hastily in finished articles. And the English businessman is looking to continue getting some terrific deals done in the upcoming year as he and the chiefs at Hotspur Way look to help Ange Postecoglou build a strong squad that competes at the highest level.
According to an exclusive report from TBR Football, Tottenham are keeping tabs on AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders ahead of the January transfer window. Manchester City have been also scouting the player this season and have been hugely impressed.
Tijjani Reijnders arrived at AC Milan from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2023 and he has quickly become a staple of their formation, barely missing games. The Netherlands international has racked up 61 appearances already, scoring six times and providing as many assists.
The arrival of new manager Paulo Fonseca hasn’t changed his status yet, and Tijjani Reijnders continuing to thrive in his role has caught the attention of many elite clubs. Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona also remain on his trail, while Liverpool and Tottenham both were interested in the 26-year-old before he joined AC Milan.
The aforementioned report adds Milan are looking to tie Reijnders down to a new contract amid heavy interest from clubs across Europe. They are understood to be happy with the Dutchman’s performances and are ready to open talks over a long-term deal in a bid to repel advances from clubs.
The central midfielder already has a contract at the San Siro until 2028 (Transfermarkt), so the Serie A giants anyway find themselves in a strong negotiating position.
As far as Spurs are concerned, they have been only monitoring Reijnders’ performances at Milan for now. The Lilywhites are well-stocked in the midfield department, and with Big Ange giving Dejan Kulusevski a new role as an attacking No.8 since this season, there isn’t any immediate requirement for a player in this area of the field.
However, if Tottenham are to grow and build their squad, they must keep enhancing their options across the pitch. Reijnders, in that regard, would bring a lot of value to their midfield unit—both from an offensive and defensive point of view. The Zwolle-born talent can play in multiple positions across the midfield, making his versatility a potential plus for Spurs.
That said, if Levy decides to test Milan’s resolve for Reijnders in January, he could arrive at the club and seriously challenge Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur for a spot in Big Ange’s XI.
