Tottenham unlikely to sign Timo Werner permanently from RB Leipzig
Tottenham Hotspur agreed to re-sign Timo Werner on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig back in May, with the deal including an £8.5million buy option.
Surprisingly, his modest return of two goals and three assists on loan last season was enough to convince Spurs to retain his services for another year. And the German forward has been nothing short of disappointment at the Hotspur Way this season.
Timo Werner, who has developed a reputation for missing clear-cut chances, has only registered one assist across 11 appearances in all competitions so far this term. As a result, he does not appear to have a long-term future at Tottenham.
According to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Spurs are set to not turn Werner’s loan into a permanent deal in the summer, as head coach Ange Postecoglou eyes a new left-wide forward. The north London outfit are seriously scouring the market for an attacking winger capable of operating on both flank, leading to Werner exiting after the expiry of his loan spell.
The 28-year-old is unlikely to see significant playing time in the coming months due to the summer arrivals of Wilson Odobert and Dominic Solanke, pushing him further down the attacking pecking order under Ange Postecoglou.
While he has been praised by some for his off-the-ball work rate and defensive contribution, the ex-Chelsea flop’s finishing in front of goal has been extremely frustrating for the fans to watch. This issue could be attributed to his lack of confidence and self-belief in front of goal, as recently stated by our gaffer.
Although Big Ange is an admirer of Werner’s all-round profile, there is an expectation within the club to land a winger who is more versatile compared to him. The Lilywhites are regularly monitoring Club Brugge star Andreas Skov Olsen as a potential replacement for the Stuttgart-born attacker.
The aforementioned report adds Spurs will only have the opportunity to cut short the loan spell of Werner in January itself if an interested party emerges and tables across a proposal that satisfies all parties involved, leading to being likely that he stays at the club until the summer instead of leaving midway through the campaign.

As things stand, the only way Werner gets a consistent run of games with Spurs moving forward this season is if there is a major injury crisis across the attacking unit at the club. With his current trajectory at White Hart Lane, the decision taken now to not sign the forward permanently is the current one.
