Ex-Scout slams Tottenham midfielder’s performance and calls for Bentancur to start vs. City

Tottenham star Yves Bissouma highlighted for holding 'his own' against European favourites.

Tottenham Hotspur incurred another dent in their 2024/25 campaign as Ange Postecoglou‘s men were on the wrong side of results last weekend as Crystal Palace got better of the Lilywhites at Selhurst Park Stadium on Sunday. The North Londoners came into the game on the back of two consecutive wins, and the Greece-born head coach was looking to make it three in three against a struggling Oliver Glasner side.

Yves Bissouma was one of the players starting in the midfield in the 1-0 defeat, with the Mali international struggling to find his footing in the game, and ex-Spurs scout Bryan King was not left impressed with his performances and has backed the former Celtic coach to bench the 28-year-old when Tottenham host Manchester City in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup this Wednesday.

The former scout has backed Uruguayan international Rodrigo Bentancur to secure a spot in the starting eleven against Bissouma.

King urges Postecoglou to drop Bissouma, start Bentancur

Tottenham star Bissouma snubs Arsenal and tips Manchester City for Premier League glory.
Bissouma benched?

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, King side:

“I can see where Postecoglou’s problems are at the moment, going forward and in midfield.

“I’m mystified by that performance against Palace, the players are just not good enough. I’d make a change in central midfield if I were Postecoglou, I think Bentancur should be brought in and Bissouma dropped. He was a disappointment against Palace.

“Alongside Bentancur, I’d start with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski.

“Going forward, I’d have Brennan Johnson and if Son Heung-min returns he will take Mikey Moore’s place. In terms of Richarlison and Dominic Solanke, I’d still start with Solanke. I don’t think Richarlison has done enough to earn a start.”

Bissouma has been preferred by Ange in the Premier League, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Bentancur is given the preference in the midweek.

Tottenham have been making wholesale of changes in the midweek games this season; however, it is difficult to see Ange doing so against Pep Guardiola’s side as pressure continues to mount on him for the slow start that the Lilywhites have incurred in the ongoing campaign.

Spurs are looking to win a silverware this season, and a defeat against City would mean they come crashing out of League Cup early in the campaign.
