Tottenham Hotspur are linked with a shock move for Real Madrid playmaker Arda Guler

Tottenham are among the clubs interested in signing Real Madrid sensation Arda Guler on loan

Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer policy of signing prodigious talents with rich potential under Ange Postecoglou is starting to pay off rich dividends. There is still some way to go before the North London club starts challenging for major honours but the groundwork is being laid of for a special future.

While Spurs enjoyed a productive summer transfer window, the club chiefs have already started identifying new targets to strengthen the squad further. Tottenham are believed to be keeping close tabs on Real Madrid starlet Arda Guler ahead of a possible loan swoop in January.

Arda Guler joined Real Madrid from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023. Regarded as one of the hottest talents across Europe, the Turkiye international, however, arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu injured. As a result, he had to spend time on the sidelines. This meant the teenager had to wait a long time to make his debut for Real Madrid.

After recovering from his injury, Guler was slowly integrated into the squad. However, Carlo Ancelotti did not entrust Guler enough and often gave him chances off the bench in his debut season in Spanish football. This has continued in the ongoing campaign, with the Turkish attacker amassing only 292 minutes across 11 games so far.

This has led to rumours that the ex-Fenerbahce man would be open to leaving Real Madrid on loan in the January transfer window for regular minutes. Spurs are among the clubs interested in signing Guler on a dry loan.

Now, football finance expert Dan Plumley feels Tottenham CEO Daniel Levy could pull off a “shrewd” transfer move by bringing Guler to N17. He asserts a potential deal could be a more financially practical option rather than spending big on a permanent signing when the transfer window reopens.

“It’s likely to be an expensive loan deal,” Dan Plumley told Tottenham News.

“But of course, loan deals are probably still cheaper than an overall transfer fee and it’s not going to be the type of player Real Madrid are going to be looking to sell at the minute if his potential is to be realised in the future.

“It’s one of those that you would put in the more high-profile loan category and that is likely to be more expensive.

“But if you can get that kind of player with that potential even for a short amount of time, you might perceive that to be a good deal rather than going into the market for a permanent signing.

“It could prove to be a pretty shrewd move even though it is still going to be a relatively expensive fee in terms of a loan agreement given the nature of the club you’re loaning from and the player in context.”

Should Tottenham honcho Daniel Levy go for Arda Guler on loan?

There is no way Real Madrid will sanction a permanent exit for Guler. The only way he departs is on loan with no buy option. Given the kind of talent he is, it wouldn’t be surprising if the European champions ask for a sizeable loan fee for Guler’s signature in the winter transfer window.

Having spent millions in the summer transfer window, it would make sense on Spurs’ part to tap into the loan market in order to strengthen the squad if required. The club may decide to inject some new vigour, energy and creativity around the likes of Dominic Solanke, James Maddison and Son Heung-min.

in that regard, Guler on loan for six months would be ideal, and if Spurs need to pay a loan fee to secure his signature, we definitely must.
