Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba is being monitored by Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur haven’t enjoyed a great start to the 2024/25 season and that is mirrored by their eighth position in the Premier League table.
The Hotspur Way chiefs decided to back Ange Postecoglou well in the summer transfer window after his successful first season in north London. They broke the club record for the acquisition of striker Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth while also bolstering the midfield and wide department. However, Spurs have found it difficult to string consistent performances.
Yet, Daniel Levy and Johan Lange are fully supportive of Ange Postecoglou and want him to turn the club’s fortunes around. With that said, behind the scenes, the duo are making plans to further to strengthen the squad.

According to talkSPORT Transfer notebook, Tottenham are among the Premier League clubs interested in Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba. Ange Postecoglou is a big admirer of the young Cameroonian.
Signed in a £23m deal from French club Lille in the summer of 2023, Carlos Baleba arrived at Brighton as a replacement for Moises Caicedo. After initially taking some time to adjust to the rigours of Premier League football, he went on to make 37 appearances in all competitions for the Seagulls across a promising debut season.
The African midfielder has picked up where he left off this term and appears to have added goals to his game, netting twice in his opening 10 matches across all competitions under new head coach Fabian Hurzeler. With his stellar performances this term, the 20-year-old has caught the attention of Arsenal and Liverpool too.
Brighton have undoubtedly been one of the shrewdest operators in the transfer market in the last five years, signing young, hidden gems, nurturing them and selling on big profits. However, having signed him on a contract until 2028 (Transfermarkt), the Seagulls are under no pressure to sell Baleba next year.
That doesn’t make the Cameroon enforcer untouchable at the Amex Stadium by any means as owner Tony Bloom’s transfer model has always revolved around signing unknown talents for modest fees before selling them on for big money. So, Spurs, whose recruitment policy in recent years has been focused on recruiting young talents with high potential rather than buying finished articles, should fancy their chances of signing Baleba.
In Baleba, the Lilywhites would get a technically sound midfielder with tenacity, physicality and ball-winning traits. Such qualities could make him a long-term replacement for Yves Bissouma, whilst being an ideal partner for Archie Gray in the future in the engine room. He is still only 20 years old and can fulfil his true potential under Big Ange’s watchful eyes.
That said, it is clear that Tottenham may have to break the bank to sign Baleba from Brighton next year.
