Tottenham star Micky van de Ven ruled out with a hamstring injury until after the international break
Tottenham Hotspur made it through to the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup after a 2-1 win against Manchester City at home on Wednesday.
Goals from Timo Werner and Pape Matar Sarr gave Ange Postecoglou’s side a two-goal lead in the first half, but Matheus Nunes got one back for the away side shortly before the interval. Eventually, the hosts held on and advanced closer to achieving the Carabao Cup.
A blemish in Spurs’ win over Man City was the unfortunate injury to Micky van de Ven. He pulled up with a hamstring problem while sprinting back to tackle City winger Savinho and left the pitch in tears, leaving Ange Postecoglou and the fans sweating over the defender’s fitness. He lasted only 14 minutes on the pitch.
Ahead of the big weekend clash against Aston Villa, Big Ange has delivered the latest injury update on Micky van de Ven. The Spurs gaffer has confirmed the Dutchman has suffered a hamstring injury that will see him miss Sunday’s Premier League game.
“Micky is the main one (injury worry),” Postecoglou told reporters in his pre-match press conference on Friday (h/t Football London).
“It’s not too serious, but probably after the international break for him. He was really looking forward to the game, so he was emotional. At least it’s not a bad one like last time that kept him out for quite a while.”
Losing Van de Ven until after the international is a body blow for Spurs. This is the third hamstring injury for the Dutchman since he arrived at the Hotspur Way from VfL Wolfsburg last summer.
Tottenham have three games before the November international break, with Villa vising the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium first. Following that, it is a tough Europa League clash away to Turkish side Galatasaray next week, and a home game against newbies Ipswich Town in the Premier League next weekend.
First up after the international break, Spurs face Manchester City in the Premier League and Big Ange will hope Van de Ven returns fit and firing right away. The Netherlands international has arguably been our club’s best player this season, so his hamstring injury is a big setback for Big Ange.

Radu Dragusin is certain to replace Van de Ven at the heart of Tottenham’s defence against the Villans, and he will have a chance to prove his value to the team.
