Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a tough hand in the last shuffle as star defender Micky van de Ven pulled out with injury; however, this could turn out to be a blessing in disguise as highly regarded centre-back Radu Dragusin will enter the fray in bid to impress Ange Postecoglou and earn a place in his starting eleven.
The North Londoners signed Dragusin from Italian side Genoa at the commencement of the ongoing calendar year, and he has since been limited to a bits-and-parts role at White Hart Lane owing to the difficulty of breaking into the Lilywhites squad given the dominance of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
Wenham back Dragusin to impress
However, Dutch international Micky van de Ven pulled his hamstring in Tottenham’s 2-1 fourth-round Carabao Cup victory over Manchester City in the midweek, and John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, has backed the Romanian centre-back to “explode” in Van de Ven’s absence as he expresses excitement to watch the 22-year-old finally having a spell of consistent minutes donning the Lilywhites badge.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:
“This opens up a window for Drăgușin to come in and play. “
“I thought he was outstanding against Manchester City. Therefore, this is a chance for him to cement himself at Spurs. He just needs some confidence, and then I think he could explode as a defender and become very good. I’m quite excited to see him play.”
Tottenham faithful have seen glimpses of how good Dragusin can be; however, he has never seen consistent game time under his belt due to the formidable competition ahead of him. But this is his time to shine and become a key cog at White Hart Lane.
His agent has been speaking consistently about game time; now is the opportunity to convert those words into performances, and Spurs fans would be excited about the potential he brings at N17.
