Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke arguably enjoyed his best performance donning the Lilywhites badge in the North Londoners 4-1 win against Aston Villa at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Solanke nets brace in Spurs win
The ex-Liverpool striker netted a brace against the Villans, a club that are expected to challenge Spurs for a top-four finish at the end of the campaign. The 27-year-old netted a beautiful first goal when he drifted in behind Villa’s last line and dinked the ball beautifully over Argentine shot-stopper Emiliano Martínez. He netted his second when he met Richarlison, who drove into the box and unselfishly cut it back, only for England International to find the back of the net to score his second and Tottenham’s third just four minutes later.
It was a performance that not only reciprocates his price tag but also the expectations that the Lilywhites supporters have from the striker.
Postecoglou praises Solanke’s impact
It was a wonderful display from Solanke, and Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou also acknowledged the 27-year-old’s efforts in his post-game press conference, where he suggested how Dom’s work rate and grind through different phases of the game influence the Lilywhites game as much as his goals.
Speaking in his post-game presser, Ange said (via. BBC):
“Unbelievable effort. The work he did midweek against City. His goals are unbelievable but his general play, his work-rate, I can’t speak highly enough of him.”
Tottenham would be hoping that Solanke continues this touch in front of goal, as when he has a good game, Spurs usually come out on top. And moreover, as he gets accustomed to the sequences and playing style that the former Celtic manager has implemented at Hotspur Way, more flawless performances should start to flow.
-> Tight wage structure hindered Tottenham from signing England international who Postecoglou wanted
