Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke had been subject to ample pressure to perform at White Hart Lane following his transfer to North London in a £65 million-rated move. The England international incurred a slow start to his career at Hotspur Way; however, he has since got back to his Bournemouth strides, putting in some exemplary performances.
The ex-Liverpool striker has established himself as a key cog to Ange Postecoglou’s attacking sequences in no time, as he brings a physical presence that is difficult to contain.
The North Londoners 4-1 win against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium yesterday was a perfect depiction of everything that Solanke brings to the table. His well-taken brace in the space of four minutes not only changed the game but also put the hosts in the perfect position to take all three points.
Shearer praises Solanke impact
Premier League icon Alan Shearer spoke about the England international’s potential and capabilities at Tottenham, suggesting that the 27-year-old should at least score 20 goals donning the Lilywhites badge this season while he goes on to describe everything that the England international brings to the table. Shearer speaking on Rest is Football Podcast said:
“I would hope and expect him to get 20 goals at least this season, even because of the way Spurs play and how many chances they create. I think for a forward, that’s a really good team to play in, because if he can stay fit, with the players you’ve got there with and how they whip balls into the box.
I mean, even the first goal was a great example, with Son whipping it in and Johnson getting on the end of it. I think with the way they play, he should be at least getting 20 goals this season.”
Spurs striker thrives in Postecoglou’s system
Solanke is undoubtedly one of the frontrunners in the striking role in the Premier League, and with Tottenham he has an opportunity to develop himself into one of the best centre-forwards in Europe, provided he keeps putting his contributions in front of goal in the Lilywhites colours.
Moreover, the 27-year-old is increasingly becoming an integral part of Ange Postecoglou‘s sequences, and he has demonstrated a keen understanding of the tactical demands of the system. Solanke’s ability to hold up the ball, link play, and make intelligent runs in behind makes him a key cog to the Lilywhites high-pressing and vertical style of play.
