Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt another injury blow as defender Cristian Romero picked up an injury in the North Londoners latest fixture against Aston Villa at the weekend. While the Lilywhites found a way to come on top of Unai Emery’s side, who are expectedly direct competitors for the Spur spot in the top four, they suffered a blow that could derail their season leaps and bounds.
The Argentine world cup winner left White Hart Lane pitch 15 minutes into the second half with an injury suspected to be a bone injury, which came after he went into an erratic challenge with Villa’s only goal scorer for the night, Morgan Rogers. It is expected that he took something on his right foot.
Romero injury sets alarm bells ringing
The latest report from TYC Sports insists that the former Atalanta star’s injury has now ‘set off alarm bells’ in the Argentine dressing room.
Romero is one of the best defenders in the world at the moment, despite his lack of focus in the ongoing 2024/25 campaign, and his presence in the dressing room at Argentina is a very crucial one. The 26-year-old is a key cog for his club and country, and any extended spell on the sidelines would come a massive blow to Tottenham as well as Argentina.
While Tottenham are keeping tabs on the tests and his recovery, the situation is said to be ‘not encouraging’.
Both, Ange Postecoglou as well as Lionel Scaloni, would be hoping for a swift recovery and getting Romero back in the heart of defence soon.
For Tottenham, this is an opportunity for Radu Dragusin to find an in-road in the starting eleven and establish his presence at N17.
