Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been subject to links with a move away from N-17, with the Argentine World Cup winner being linked to La Liga giants Real Madrid. And given the 26-year-old’s importance to Ange Postecoglou‘s squad, Daniel Levy has been looking to tie down the player to a new contract at Hotspur Way to ward off any interest in his signatures.
The former Atalanta back has taken massive strides in his game since moving to Spurs and has established himself as one of the best defenders in Europe and a key cog at Tottenham, which reciprocated into vice-captaincy at N17. And with his contract ending in 2027, the North Londoners have been looking to begin negotiations for a potential new contract.
Will Romero ditch Spurs for Champions League dream?
Cristian Romero has expressed one concern to the chiefs at Hotspur Way ahead of any contract negotiations, per TBR Football. The Argentine international has been worried about committing his future to Tottenham for one reason. While the 26-year-old is happy at White Hart Lane, the lack of Champions League football is having him second thoughts about his long-term future at the club.
The report goes on to add Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan are keeping a close eye on his contract situation. All the aforementioned trio of clubs are a regular presence in European elite football.
And the club is well aware of the potential suitors and the fact that Romero commands interest from Europe’s most elite sides. Spurs have reportedly told the player that getting into the Champions League is part of the plans; however, the club is said to be worried that they might lose multiple star players if they fail to do so this season.
