Tottenham Hotspur are planning to sign a midfielder in January
Tottenham Hotspur had a productive summer transfer window as they not only invested in quite a few young talents with high potential but also made a marquee signing in Dominic Solanke.
10 games into the new season and results have been inconsistent, but Spurs fans are smart enough to understand that Ange Postecoglou is building something special at the Hotspur Way. The process of rebuilding the squad will take time and the North Londoners are on the right track under Ange Postecoglou.
After beating Aston Villa 4-1 at home last weekend, Tottenham climbed to seventh in the table. They are only two points adrift of fourth-place Chelsea, and having narrowly missed out on a top-four spot last season, Spurs’ main objectives will include getting back into the Champions League and winning a trophy this term.
Of course, for Tottenham to keep pace in the race for the top four, a new signing or two in January might be on the agenda. According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Spurs want to sign a new midfielder in January and have two players in sight—AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders and Real Madrid’s Arda Guler.
Big Ange wants a central midfielder who can not only control games and add dynamism but also complement his current crop of players and improve the consistency of his team. Tijjani Reijnders has undoubtedly been AC Milan’s best player in an otherwise poor Serie A campaign thus far, scoring four goals in 13 appearances, including three in four Champions League outings.
While he fits well into Big Ange’s system, Milan are unlikely to sanction Reijnders’ exit midway through the campaign due to his high importance to Paulo Fonseca’s side. Yet, Spurs continue monitoring his situation.
Arda Guler, meanwhile, is a completely different profile to Reijnders. Known for his incisive passing, vision and ability to run, the Turkish sensation would add new vigour and energy to the Tottenham engine room. The aforementioned report adds the teenager could be available on loan in January, with Real Madrid looking to give him more minutes in a highly competitive atmosphere like the Premier League.
However, a temporary switch for Guler isn’t being fancied by Big Ange as he wants players who can commit themselves to the Spurs project in the long term. The Lilywhites want to make a key signing in the winter window to alleviate their squad and boost their top-four hopes in the second half of the season.

Truth be told, the signing of Reijnders mid-season looks highly improbable. So, the best we could try getting on loan is Guler, who will not be short of options if Real Madrid open the doors for a temporary exit.
