Son’s successor or Moore’s bane?- The South American sensation on Tottenham’s radar

Tottenham honcho Daniel Levy keeps 'huge fee' aside to bring in a marquee player in the winter transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur have been subject to aggressive links with a move for Boca Juniors sensation Kevin Zenon as Daniel Levy looks to accommodate highly acclaimed starts into Ange Postecoglou’s roster at White Hart Lane. And a move for the Argentine ace adds to Levy’s newly adapted transfer strategy to land highly touted talents in third-development years and nurture them into their potential within the corridors of Hotspur Way.

The Lilywhites are said to have been ‘keeping a close eye’ on the Argentine player, who has been doing exceptionally for his current employers off late. His performances have attracted interests from the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle United alongside Spurs. However, any move for the 23-year-old will be subject to activation of the release clause in his current contract, which stands at around £10–12 million.

Zenon is a versatile profile who can operate in the left wide forward role as well as slot in as an attacking midfielder. And Ange Postecoglou would be hoping that the Argentine adds creative depth and goal-scoring ability to his roster if Tottenham are to pursue his signatures.

However, should Tottenham be pursuing his signature? – This comes down to three points that could be pondered in the drawing room before pushing to pay his release clause.

A long-term Heung Min Son replacement?

Son has been linked with Spurs exit.

The South Korean skipper has been subject to links with a move away from White Hart Lane as his current contract at Spurs comes due at the end of an ongoing campaign. While there have been speculations suggesting a probable extension option that could extend the 32-year-old’s stay for another year, however, that comes as a pointer for the chiefs at N17 to start looking for a probable replacement, and Zenon could be a long-term replacement option for the former Bayer Leverkusen star.

If he can replicate Son’s quality is a secondary consideration, which would be based on if he can settle into the physical and rusty nature of the English top tier.

No more Timo?

End of the road for Timo Werner at Tottenham?

Timo Werner has been on the receiving end of criticism owing to his lack of output at White Hart Lane. The German international’s form in front of goal has been a source of headlines, and at the moment it looks like Ange Postecoglou would not compound on getting the former Chelsea forward on a permanent deal.

Spurs interest in Zenon suggests Daniel Levy’s willingness to move on from the RB Leipzig forward and rather bring in a young winger who has the capacity to make an impact at N17 in the longer term.

What about Moore?

Will Zenon restrict Mikey Moore’s minutes? (Photo by Tottenham Hotspur FC)

Tottenham starlet Mikey Moore is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in English football at the moment, and the young left-winger is playing some important minutes for the Lilywhites. Getting in a new young player in his position who could potentially challenge Moore for a starting spot might seem counterproductive.

Bringing in Zenon would limit his minutes and possibly restrict his minutes.
