Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has been reduced to a bench role at White Hart Lane, with Rodrigo Bentancur taking his place in Ange Postecoglou‘s starting lineup off late.
The Mali international has enjoyed a haphazard season where he has played magnificently in some games, and he has followed that up with underwhelming performances, which have seen the former Brighton midfielder take up a bench role at N17.
Bissouma enjoyed a magnificent performance in the Lilywhites 3-2 defeat against Galatasaray at RAMS Park in the midweek; however, the 28-year-old’s performance was one of the few positives that Spurs could take from the fixture. And podcast host John Wenham, who owns reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, was blown away by his performance against the Turkish giants.
Bissouma shines but asked to be benched for Ipswich clash
Despite speaking highly about Bissouma’s performance, Wenham insists that the Malian wouldn’t start for Tottenham in today’s game against Ipswich Town. He acknowledges that Dejan Kulusevski and Pape Matar Sarr would be preferred in midfield over the Ivory Coast-born ace, given the duo’s more consistent performances and the tactical flexibility that both bring to Postecoglou’s setup.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:
“Sarr and Kulusevski have been two of our better players this season. I think they will both definitely start. In terms of that third midfielder, I think Bentancur will be recalled to the team. Bissouma was fantastic last night but he started and Bentancur was a substitute.
“Therefore, I could see Bentancur getting the nod for this one. However, whoever is picked, it is fantastic to have these options now.”
Tottenham played a horrendous game against Gala, and Spurs would be under pressure to make things right against Ipswich Town as they look to continue the roller roaster of the season that Spurs have incurred off late. And Ange wouldn’t want to end with a defeat going into yet another international break.
