Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with multiple midfielders as the North Londoners look to compound on their options in the middle of the park in the upcoming 2025 transfer interval, and Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso has been among the names linked with a move to White Hart Lane.
Cardoso had been putting in some exceptional performances in La Liga off late, and his performances have attracted interests from multiple clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa. However, despite the interests of the aforementioned duo, Spurs hold a massive advantage to land his signature.
The North Londoners have agreed a priority option with Real Betis to land the 23-year-old midfielder as part of the deal that took Argentine maestro Giovani Lo Celso to Betis, as revealed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on X, formerly Twitter. And per a report by Estadio Deportivo, there is a general feeling that the player will end up moving to White Hart Lane.
Wenham insists Cardoso decision will be made in summer
Now, podcast host John Wenham, who owns the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, insists that the American midfielder is making decent progress in the Spanish top tier while he acknowledges that the Premier League heavyweights will make a decision on whether to bring him to Hotspur Way or not at the conclusion of the ongoing campaign.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:
“Cardoso is playing well at the moment. Spurs have a low agreed fee for him already. Therefore, the better he plays, the better value the deal will become.
“I saw he was getting plaudits for his outstanding performance in a 1-0 victory for Real Betis over Atletico Madrid recently. I was worried that after this agreement with Spurs was struck, Cardoso would stop playing and Betis would focus on their own players.
“However, that isn’t what has happened at all. In terms of whether or not Tottenham sign him, I think they will re-evaluate in April or May and make a final decision at the end of the season.”
The feeling around North London at the moment is that Cardoso’s will make a move to White Hart Lane if he continues to develop at his current rate with a unit of supporters confident that he is the right fit for their midfield needs.
