Pundit urges Leeds to compound their interest to land Tottenham sensation

Leicester City eye loan move for promising Tottenham youngster.

Tottenham Hotspur young starlet Archie Gray moved to White Hart Lane for a £40m fee in the recently concluded summer transfer window. Many Spurs supporters were left surprised when Daniel Levy sanctioned a move involving such hefty fees for a teenager who has barely featured in one full season of men’s football.

Archie has been rated as one of the best up-and-coming players in English football, and his versatile profile allows him to operate in different roles along the pitch. The teenager can feature in the midfield as well as in the full-back role, and Ange Postecoglou would love to have his hard-working presence on the pitch. However, things have not worked out the way many thought initially with the teenager, struggling to accumulate considerable game time under his belt, which has made space for rumours surrounding a probable move away from Hotspur Way in the upcoming winter.

Expectedly, there are multiple suitors buying and vying for his signatures, and Leeds United could be one of the clubs looking to fortify interests for a possible loan move in January. And Carlton Palmer acknowledges that the player could be looking for a temporary switch in the winter window while laying off potential interested parties as he goes on to suggest how a return to Elland Road could work out perfectly.

Speaking to the Football World League, Carlton Palmer said:

“Tottenham are bracing themselves for a host of clubs to test the waters in regard to taking Archie Gray on loan.

“There’s talk of Premier League clubs and Championship clubs who would be interested in taking him in on loan. Gray is still well thought of by Postecoglou. He sees the 18-year-old as a very shrewd bit of business, and one which will pay off in the long term.

“He’s highly rated, but his game time has been affected, he hasn’t had enough game time. He has only played 393 minutes of action in all competitions so far this season, so the question remains, will they let him go out on loan?

“If they do let him go, Leeds may have just missed out on his return with Premier League clubs interested. It would be a great bit of business if they could pull it off, but there will be lots of competition for the midfielder.

“I don’t think he’d want to go to the likes of Southampton, who are struggling, maybe Leicester City, who are just outside the drop.

“I think it would be a great fit for him to return to Leeds. He’s only 18, very versatile, as Leeds fans know, and he could play a major part from Christmas till the end of the season, by helping them get promoted back to the Premier League.”

At the moment, Tottenham don’t have the required depth to loan away Gray and Ange would be hesitant to let him go unless Lev brings in another player to the squad. However, if he isn’t getting regular minutes under the Australian head coach, a loan move could make sense for both parties.
