Ange Postecoglou has drawn a lot of criticism from fans and pundits due to Tottenham’s inconsistent form
Tottenham Hotspur had the opportunity to move third in the Premier League on Sunday but find themselves sitting tenth after losing 2-1 to newly promoted Ipswich Town at home.
The result highlighted the Lilywhites’ inconsistency under Ange Postecoglou as they followed their wins against Manchester City (Carabao Cup) and Aston Villa (Premier League) with losses to Galatasaray SK (Europa League) and Ipswich Town.
This has left Ange Postecoglou in a spot of bother, and while he has made a positive effect on the club as a whole, the inconsistencies remain at White Hart Lane. The Greek-Australian tactician has plenty of credit in the bank with the Hotspur Way chiefs after his first season in charge at Spurs, which saw the club finish fifth.
The inconsistencies in results should generally not lead to any panic about Big Ange’s future at the club, with the Tottenham gaffer insisting the up-and-down performance levels are “down to me”.
Former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp joined Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend on the talkSPORT show to debate what went wrong for Big Ange’s side in their 2-1 home loss to Ipswich. The Englishman called for patience with Big Ange, advising the club to stick with the 59-year-old despite Sunday’s shock defeat to the Premier League new boys.
“It is you know people are very quick to turn. A few weeks ago, Ange is just like you know Oh my God what is you know he is God’s gift of football to Tottenham and things are going great. And then you have a couple of defeats and it turns so quickly, you’ve got to be patient unless he had a go throughout the season. But I am sure you are looking and thinking well maybe I do need to just be a little bit tighter in certain areas and make sure that we don’t keep getting beaten.”
Big Ange has to improve on many aspects of defending and instil a different mentality into his team. When certain key players are unavailable, such as Micky van de Ven, the veteran tactician needs to adapt accordingly and avoid playing a high defensive line. Many teams have found it easier to breach our defence and score goals—either through set pieces or quick transitions—and that has to be fixed by our gaffer.

The club spent good money on fresh talents in the summer, and losing at home to a newly promoted side is unacceptable. However, we are in a transitional phase, and there will be bumps in the road. So, Levy and his bosses have to keep faith in Big Ange.
