Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a probable move for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba as Daniel Levy looks to compound on Ange Postecoglou’s roster in the middle of the park going into the 2025 transfer intervals.
Spurs have been short of options in the midfield owing to the departures of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Giovani Lo Celso in the summer transfer window. And the chiefs at Hotspur Way failed to bring in appropriate recruits to cover for the veteran departures amid links with multiple players from around Europe. However, with the options thin, Levy will have to drop into the market again to bring in a midfielder.
Tottenham linked with Brighton’s Baleba
Tottenham have been subject to links with Carlos Baleba, who signed for the Seagulls in a £23m deal from French side Lille and has been highly touted as the new Moises Caicedo at AmEx Stadium. And his impressive performances in the English top tier have left multiple sides vying for his signatures, with Spurs among the clubs looking to sign him, and former Lilywhites goalkeeper Paul Robinson insists that the North Londoners will wait until the summer transfer window to strike a deal for the 20-year-old.
Ange Postecoglou is said to be a fan of the midfielder; however, the Australian head coach will face competition from Arsenal and Liverpool for his services.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Robinson said:
“They both want to be looking at the European places so it’s unlikely they sell to a rival in January. They may have done with Yves Bissouma but that was a summer deal.
“If he’s a player the manager wants, it’ll be a summer move, and it all depends on funds. Brighton sell players for a heavy fee compared to what they paid for. They’ll want a big mark-up. It’s a difficult deal.”
Spurs will have to hold off competition from multiple suitors; however, they will have to qualify for the Champions League for the next season.
