Grealish to Spurs? Hutton sees potential despite financial hurdles

Manchester City star Jack Grealish has been linked with a move to Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur splashed heavily in the summer transfer window to bolster the squad that finished fifth in the Premier League last term.

Sporting director Johan Lange and chairman Daniel Levy led the recruitment drive, splashing more than £120million on five fresh faces with Dominic Solanke becoming the most expensive acquisition in the club’s history. Amidst a hugely inconsistent start to the season, the chiefs at the Hotspur Way have been seemingly looking to explore options to bring quality and depth in the wing department during the mid-season trading period.

Spurs have been in talks with the representatives of Manchester City star Jack Grealish over a possible move in January. Johan Lange came close to securing the England international’s signature during the summer transfer window, and now the Lilywhites are looking to revisit the deal as they seek to strengthen their squad.

However, according to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Jack Grealish is not interested in leaving Manchester City and Tottenham would need to pay over the top to lure him to N17 in 2025.

City broke the British transfer record by signing Grealish in a £100million deal from his boyhood club Aston Villa in the summer of 2021, and they remain firm in sticking with the creative winger despite an injury-hit start to the new season.

The 29-year-old has played 539 minutes so far this season. He has missed the last three Premier League games with an injury and was one of the eight English players to withdraw from international duty on Monday.

The aforementioned report adds that there are uncertainties over whether Tottenham will be able to sign Grealish if he is made available for sale due to the high finances involved in a potential deal. Also, the Sky Blues are in no hurry to cash him as the Birmingham-born ace is contracted until 2027 (Transfermarkt).

Grealish is currently on an eye-watering £300,000-per-week at the Etihad Stadium, and meeting such demands would not be feasible for Spurs, who under Levy have always maintained a tight wage structure. In addition, the Lilywhites would have to break the bank for the ex-Aston Villa captain to persuade Man City to sanction his exit, making a potential deal in the winter window all but highly improbable.

Thus, if Ange Postecoglou wants to bring in competition for Son Heung-min and James Maddison, the club should be looking elsewhere in the market. Going for Grealish doesn’t make sense from a financial point of view as well as him not fitting the age profile of players the current regime at White Hart Lane have been targeting under Big Ange.
