Viktor Gyökeres is the striker to go after in Europe at the moment, which is exactly what all the heavyweights are doing.
Another side from Germany has emerged as suitors for the Swede’s signature, which opens up questions regarding the future of another elite striker.
Bayern Munich linked with Viktor Gyökeres, could lead to Harry Kane exit
According to a Football London report, Bayern Munich have also entered the race for Sporting forward Viktor Gyökeres.
The 26-year-old’s star has skyrocketed since his arrival in Portugal from Coventry City a little over three years ago. With 23 goals and four assists in 18 appearances across all competitions this season, the Swede is the in-form striker in Europe at the moment.
Gyökeres has a €100m release clause in his €3.84m-per-year Sporting contract, which is set to run until June 2028, though Gyökeres is widely expected to leave next summer.
Bayern’s interest in Gyökeres naturally raises questions over Harry Kane‘s future. With 17 goals and nine assists in 16 appearances this season, the England captain has not been ineffective in front of goal by any means, though he does turn 32 next year, by which point he’ll have run out half of his €25m-per-year Bayern contract.
Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Tottenham and Bayern had a “gentleman’s agreement” in place that could see Kane return to North London in the near future.
Will Bayern bite?
Bayern spending a three-figure sum on a veteran forward in the final year of his contract was, simply put, a wild decision in and of itself—one that hasn’t yet paid for itself, and one has to ask whether even returning to the German Bundesliga summit would justify this price tag, regardless of Kane’s individual numbers.
And it’s already rare for Bayern to go out and splash huge cash around, so it’s hard to expect them to go for another three-figure move so soon. You just never know, though.
This much is certain: at some point Kane will leave Bayern, and if he does return to Tottenham (which is quite likely), it will be interesting to see the finances the latter will have to commit to make that happen.
