Archie Gray reveals Tottenham’s aspirations about winning the Europa League this season
Archie Gray has had a slow start to life at Tottenham Hotspur following his £30million switch from Leeds United in the summer.
The Lilywhites took advantage of Leeds United’s failure to win promotion last season, beating London rivals Brentford to the signing of the England under-21 international. The teenager has made 11 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions, clocking up 581 minutes to date. He has grabbed the opportunities that have come his way in the Europa League and the Carabao Cup with both hands.
However, Archie Gray is yet to start a Premier League game for his new club, leading to speculation about whether he could go out on loan in January. The Englishman, who can operate in both defence and midfield, will hope to break into Ange Postecoglou’s first XI over the next month and a half after recent reports suggested that Rodrigo Bentancur will be banned for seven domestic games following his comments on Son Heung-min.
While he has yet to become a regular on the Tottenham side, Gray has revealed that he dreams of lifting a trophy in his first season in north London. He also acknowledged that the Spurs squad is determined to win the Europa League.
In the official Spurs YouTube series Driving Home With, host Ben Haines asked about Gray’s objectives in his debut season with Spurs, to which he said:
“Obviously challenge for a trophy, that’s the obvious one. And for me personally, this season, try to get as many minutes as possible and help the team as much as I can in any way.”
When pressed about the prospect of playing in the Europa League final at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spain, the England youth international replied:
“Yeah, that would be (cool), definitely. That’s definitely one we’re all keen on, it’s a great competition, there’s been some great winners and stuff like that, that’d be very nice!”
Tottenham’s first and foremost priority will be getting back in the Champions League. Apart from finishing in the top four, Big Ange has also made it clear that he wants to win a trophy this season.

As per former manager Jose Mourinho, the Lilywhites are one of the favourites to lift the Europa League trophy. Big Ange’s side have started the Europa League competition very well, winning three of their opening four games. The supporters would want our gaffer to prioritise winning this prestigious competition once the club enters the knockout rounds.
