Tottenham have opened talks with French midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, according to France Football (h/t The Sun).
The former Inter Milan man joined La Liga side Valencia on loan last season after struggling to perform at the San Siro. The 25-year-old midfielder scored four times and assisted four goals for Los Che as he helped them finish in the Champions League spots.
Valencia did sign the player on a permanent deal for a fee of £22million to keep him at the Mestalla till 2022. However, the report suggests that Valencia have placed a release clause of £72m for the midfielder.
The club might be willing to sell the player, provided they earn a tidy profit for the Frenchman. The La Liga club might even accept a fee lower than the £72m release clause if Tottenham table a decent offer for the 25-year-old.
Kondogbia certainly would not come on the cheap as he is a quality player. Tottenham have not made any moves in the summer window but if we were to sign Kondogbia, it would be a huge statement of intent.
The 25-year-old would neatly fit into our side and could even possibly replace Mousa Dembele in the centre of the park. It will be interesting to see if the French midfielder is ready to swap the Spanish league with the English one.

He was able to find his form in the La Liga but Mauricio Pochettino could take him to another level if we can complete a deal for the French star.
