Pundit expects £60m rated Tottenham signing to start for Ange straight away

Tottenham fear Arsenal could beat them to the signing of Eberechi Eze.

Is Eberechi Eze the answer to Tottenham’s attacking midfield woes?

Tottenham Hotspur FC have been subject to transfer links with a move for Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze in the summer transfer window as the Lilywhites look to sign ceiling-raising players to aid Ange Postecoglou‘s squad development.

The North Londoners have progressed in abundance since the Australian boss took over the reins at N17, and the officials at Hotspur Way would want to ensure that the club continues this upward trajectory beyond summer. This aggregates into a very important summer transfer window ahead of them, where they would want to ensure all arsenals are available in Ange’s armoury next season.

There is a keen need to strengthen the attacking midfield position on the Spurs roster as first-choice AM. James Maddison has not been his start of the season self since his injury, which has hurt the offensive sequences for the North Londoners. Adding competition would be a word of warning for the former Leicester City star and could also ensure the squad has a qualitative back-up if Maddison were to get injured yet again.

However, former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton believes that Eze would start for Tottenham right away if the club were to acquire him this summer. He does acknowledge the hefty £60 million fee it would take to land his signatures and believes that Spurs have already started conversations “in the background” with Palace ahead of a potential summer switch to North London.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Hutton said:

Spurs eyeing Eberechi Eze to spark attack

“I’m pretty sure it would help. All these chats aren’t all in the public domain, but I can imagine they’re going on in the background, especially when they’ve got that link. It’s always going to happen.”

“I think he’s an outstanding footballer,

really, really talented, and he’d make that team better. He comes in and starts for me, whether that be as a number 10 or whatever front position he wants to play in, I think he starts.”

“Again, he kicks them on and makes them better. It is going to be a huge fee of around £50 million to £60 million. I don’t even know if he’s got a release clause, but it will still be a huge fee. But I think that connection can always help.”

The start to the window may not have been as electric as Spurs faithful would have expected, but in Eze, Tottenham can land the transfer of the summer for quite a bargain price given his quality.
