Spurs get Eberechi Eze transfer boost as expired release clause will get re-activated next year

Crystal Palace will be powerless to stop Tottenham if they revive their interest in Eberechi Eze next year

Tottenham Hotspur were one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window, signing as many as six players. They also did a great job of shifting most of the deadwood and trimming the wage bill.

However, there were a couple of summer transfer targets the Lilywhites missed out on. One of them was Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, who had entered the market as one of the most sought-after commodities. However, he ended up eventually staying at Crystal Palace despite interest from a host of top Premier League clubs.

Since joining Crystal Palace from Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2020, Eberechi Eze has established himself as one of the most exciting playmakers in the Premier League. The England international rise in stock and impact for the South London club in the last two years has been incredible, impressing the bystanders with his flair, incisive passing, movement and energy.

The 26-year-old signed a contract extension at Crystal Palace last November, with the club securing their valuable asset until the summer of 2027 (Transfermarkt). The deal included a buyout clause in the region of £68m, which expired at the end of the summer transfer window with no clubs triggering it before last Friday’s deadline.

However, Eze could leave the Eagles for the same value of his buyout clause in 2025. According to a report from The Daily Mail, Eze’s release clause will be reactivated when the 2024/25 campaign enters its business end.

This means Palace will be powerless to stop Spurs or any club from signing the England international, as long as they are ready to

match the player’s previous release clause of £68m. The South Londoners will have time to tie him down to a new contract with a higher release clause if they wish to do so.

Tottenham are unlikely to make a move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze on transfer deadline day.

However, it will majorly depend on Eze if he wishes to continue his career at Selhurst Park or seek a bigger challenge. Tottenham were unable to sign Eze in the summer transfer window, instead, they acted secretively and agreed to a deal with Burnley for Wilson Odobert.

For now, Big Ange and Spurs are happy to groom Odobert and help him unlock his true potential, but the north Londoners may decide to revive their interest next year for Eze, who has started the new season strongly and scored a stunning goal against Chelsea on Sunday.
