Would you sell Modric to improve the squad?

So, Redknapp has admitted he may look to sell Modric before the close of the transfer window in order to bring in four quality players for the money he receives.

This has been the source of major debate this window and I am throwing my opinion into the ring.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a massive fan of Mr ‘no like chicken badge’ and when we signed him back in 08, I was absolutely delighted.

Some fans were critical to begin with, often claiming he isn’t up to the physical standards of the Premier League.

I backed him from day one and his performances last year show why he was one of the most sought after midfielders in Europe at the time.

However, that love has deteriorated this summer following his statement of intent to leave Spurs and join Chelsea.

Granted, bids of £22m and £27m were far, far too low especially when Jordan Henderson moved to Liverpool for £20 and Andy Carroll is, somehow, worth £35m.

Yet, reports suggest that Chelsea are set to return with a £35m bid while throwing in Yossi Benayoun and Saloman Kalou to sweeten the deal.

I used to be a fan of Benayoun from his West Ham years but his best days are behind him and obtaining him would be more of a sideways step than a forward one.

Kalou, on the other hand, is a different matter altogether. I am a fan of the Ivorian international. He has just been unfortunate during his time with Chelsea but when given a run in the team, has shown what he can do.

If the talk is of offering players and cash for Modric, I would make sure it consisted of Sturridge and Kalou or, at a push, Drogba.

£35m plus two of those three and, I believe, a deal is on the cards.

The front-line would be strengthend and we would have enough cash to bring in another two midfielders and another centre-halve.

If we were looking to midfielder, Diarra talks are ongoing but I would go all out to bring in Badelj from Zagreb, the man who replaced Modric when he moved to Spurs back in 08.

As for the defence, not too sure on Samba. I wouldn’t say no but I would prefer Cahill if I am being honest or even Tasci from Stuttgart.

Either way, I would like to hear your opinions as well.

Would you sell Modric? What players would you want from Chelsea? Who would you spend the money on to strengthen the squad?

  1. If we are to sell him then fine but NOT to a premiership team, why oh why would anybody let one of their best go to a rival. If Luka (and we'er only going on what the media tells us) wants champions league football that bad there is plenty of teams abroad who would offer good money him.
