Tottenham defender Kyle Walker is looking forward to facing friend and former team mate Ashley Young when the North London side travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United tomorrow night.

Both players were instrumental for Aston Villa last season, often linking up to detrimental effect and the two still keep in touch.

However, the two will be on opposing sides tomorrow night after Walker appears to have edged out Vedran Corluka for a place in the Spurs starting XI.

And Walker has tipped Young to become a star under Sir Alex Ferguson but will give his all to shackle to England winger should the two face off at Old Trafford.

“It didn’t surprise me when he moved to Man Utd. You can see from what he did last year at Villa that he is a quality player,” Walker said.

“All the best to him. I’m actually glad he got the move.

“We get on really well, me and Ash. We had a good understanding at Villa. We still talk off the pitch, which is nice, but I’ll just treat it as a normal game and I’ll look forward to coming up against him.

“When you cross that white line it’s a game of football and I need to do a job out there.”

Tottenham’s first competitive game of the season was a 5-0 win over Hearts on Thursday night after their season opener was called-off following the riots across London.

And while the North London side take on potential top four rivals Liverpool and Manchester City in the coming weeks, the 21-year-old the players will be able to cope with the tough start to the season.

“It’s a tough few games for us,” he added.

“We are more than capable of rising to the challenge though.”

Captain Michael Dawson is also of the opinion that the postponed fixture against Everton will not affect Spurs’ performance against United.

“Hearts had a lot more games than us and we went up there and gave a good performance,” Dawson said.

“It will be more or less the same team on Monday and we are ready for Man United now. We’re looking forward to it.”
