Redknapp reveals Modric talks

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp expects chairman Daniel Levy and Luka Modric to sit down and discuss a new contract in the foreseeable future.

Modric was hankering for a move away from White Hart Lane all summer, with Chelsea his preferred destination.

However, any move failed to materialise after Levy stuck to his word and refused to sell to the Blues.

The 25-year-old was affected by the continuous speculation surrounding his future, and missed the 3-0 defeat to Manchester United, claiming his ‘head wasn’t right’.

However, now that the transfer window is closed, Redknapp believes the Croatian can focus on his football and is anticipating talks regarding an improved contract between the two parties.

“Luka will just get on with it – the chairman will sit down and discuss his contract and make a deal,” Redknapp said, in the wake of the club’s 2-0 win over Wolves.

“We are looking to make him a good offer. The transfer window being shut now makes my job easier because he has to just get on with playing.”

Redknapp has also revealed that Giovani Dos Santos turned down a move to Udinese before failing to secure a deal to sign for Sevilla.

“Gio wanted to move but we couldn’t let him go,” Redknapp said on the Mexican international, who made his first appearance in a Spurs shirt for over a year on Saturday.

“We had a £13m offer from Udinese with £10m down and the rest in do-able bonuses with a big sell-on, but he wouldn’t go.

“He wanted to go to Seville who were offering around £3m. You can’t blame the chairman for not letting him go. Gio is a talent with a big part to play.

“Only him and Luka are here now out of the lads who wanted to leave.”
