Modric focused on Spurs

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is convinced that Luka Modric is now ‘fine’ after scoring a super opener in the impressive 4-0 rout of Liverpool on Sunday.

Modric was subject to intense speculation surrounding a potential summer move to Chelsea but their efforts were in vain as chairman Daniel Levy stuck to his word and refused to sell the Croatian.

Redknapp’s pre-season plans were hindered as a result of the ensuing saga and the 26-year-old’s mental state was questioned by the Spurs manager, who confessed the players head ‘was not right’ last month.

However, with the window closed, Modric has put in two consecutive impressive performances, against Wolves and Liverpool respectively, and with the midfielder schemer’s head now back on football, Redknapp is now waiting for Levy and the player’s representatives to hold talks regarding a new contract.

“Luka is fine now, he’s just getting on with it,” said Redknapp.

“I think the chairman will sit down with him now and discuss his contract. That’s what I’d like to happen.

“It was a great strike today. That’s why we were offered £40million because he’s a top player.”

Redknapp has also been impressed by new signing Emmanuel Adebayor, who has scored three goals in two games since joining the club on a season-long loan from Manchester City last month.

“He has been flying in training,” Redknapp said.

“You think he’s going to run out of petrol but he doesn’t. He trains like someone’s wound him up.

“He always has a smile on his face. Let’s hope it continues.”

Adebayor is also convinced he has endeared himself to the Spurs faithful after scoring a brace on his home debut from Spurs.

Many were speculative about his signing due to his Arsenal history but the Togolese forward is convinced his double on Sunday has won over even the staunchest of Spurs fans.

“I’m very happy, very delighted. It’s always important to score your first goal at home. I have done it already away,” Adebayor told Sky Sports.

“I know the fans all love me because that’s what they’re looking for, a player who can score goals.

“I’m very happy that everything is going well for me at this club.

“Hopefully I can keep up the hard work and keep going.”
