Drop Paulinho? 3 Things Spurs Should Do To Beat Fulham

After playing Manchester City and then Manchester United in consecutive weeks, Tottenham will be happy to travel to Fulham to take on the Cottagers who have lost six in a row in all competitions. But with a new man at the helm, Rene Meulensteen, it could prove to be a tricky affair. Here is what I would do if I was Andre Villas-Boas.

Firstly, I would inject a load of energy into the Spurs side. Fulham are a side who are packed with luxury players who struggle to grasp a workman’s attitude, so if Spurs can zip the ball around the pitch with pace and get their movement going then that will give them the advantage straight away.

Secondly, I would go two up top in order to get the best out of Soldado. The Spaniard is a fox in the box but has struggled to link up with the midfield when playing the lone striker role, so with the energy of Defoe and a different shape in midfield it could help. Also, Fulham have conceded 22/24 of their goals from inside the box, so Soldado should be licking his lips.

Lastly, I would drop Paulinho. The Brazilian is a good player to have in your side when you are away from home against a side who are going to dominate you in the middle but I think against lesser opposition he holds Spurs back. He had a stinker against Manchester United, also, so it maybe time for him to be rested.

  1. Im in agrrement theree buddy. I've been saying it since Septemer that he needs a break. In the games against WHU Newcastle and in teh games aginst Manchester Inc Corp Saudi Ltd he has been woeful. – Not the player I saw at the CONCAF! 0 I think he would e over the moon to have a break!!

    GK – Lloris

LFB – Verts (What bl***y choice do we have?!!!)
    LCB – Chiriches
RCB – Dawson (See notes for Verts)
RFB – Walker (This bloke seriously needs genuine compo, if it isnt Naughton, why is he in our squad???)

DMF – Capoue (Sandro could do with a breather and Capoue needs game time)
    CMF – Dembele
C/AMF – Chadli/Siggurdson (Both far too plodding for wgr in the prem, Siggy has made his name as a No 10!??!!!)

LWF – Townsend (Stay Wide, get the ball in , or go and play for Leyton Orient)
RWF – Lamela (£30m should justify my reasoning for the only bloke with licence to cut-in, only player exp at doing it too!)
CF – Solado (Again, limited choice)

In my opinion,. It's such a shame to see problems at FB and upfront… Still….. After 4 years and 130Million spent!!!!!!!

Havent had striker situation sorted since that f**k Berbatov left.
Have only had one season of geniuine balance and depth at FB since Jol. (Redknapps last year)

We have absolutel OODLES of potential and quality in this squad.. We just need to address the FB and CF positions from a buyng point of view, after that, I just hope AVB can get the players sticking it in the net.

    COYS.

  2. Paulinho must be one of the most over rated midfielders to ever play for Spurs. He is an average footballer and Spurs should sell him to Stoke or West Ham.

  3. This is my best starting 11 I would have vertongen at centre back with dawson if we had a good left back but we haven't, and personally would make this a priority in Jan. I also would like to see townsend on his correct side the left and with lennon back and fit and showed us what we have been missing with his pace on the right. I would like to see Dembele further forward using his physical strength and technical ability linking up with soldado. Dembele also adds height in the last third. I would then possibly look to give lamela the opportunity of coming on for dembele in that free of the attacker role. Paulinho fighting for one of the defensive midfield positions and with Lewis Holtby, eriksen when fit and Lamela fighting for one of the attacking positions. Defoe will obviously be a replacement for Soldado if he continues to struggle. The team below considering injuries and maybe if paulinho needs a rest or not and the fact capoue needs playing time and sandro was amazing in his last match should start without question. this side has balance, width, pace and a bit of strength and height upfront with dembele playing more in the last 3rd than defensively

    LW Townsend
    LCB Vertongen
CB Dawson DM Capoue CAM Dembele CF Soldado
    CB Chirches DM Sandro
    RB Walker RW Lennon

  4. “Paulinho had a stinker.”Thought that was a bit harsh but he definitely was not amazing
    The team should be:
    Lloris
    Walker vert vlad fryers
    Holby Sandro
    Lamela Dembele chadli/Townsend
    Soldado

  5. Firstly, Paulinho played in a new role. So comparing that performance to the rest of the season makes little sense. Secondly, Paulinho in the hole allowed AVB's tactics to work much better. Eriksen/Holtby there ain't working. AVB is unlikely to start 2 strikers, and he seems against putting Siggy/Lamela/Townsend/Chadli/lennon there. Dembele works better in a deeper role, and Paulinho has a greater goal threat AND assist rate than Dembele – which also applies to Eriksen/Holtby. THIRDLY, Paulinho did not have a stinker, and at the very least was no worse than the rest of midfield. The tactics seemed to work better. We have tried all else, and it has failed. Why change something that seemed to work finally?????

  6. Completely agree with Paulinho having a stinker. More than one if you ask me. To those who disagree, what has he done to justify 90 mins every match?
