Pochettino

Tottenham continued their unbeaten streak with a 1-1 draw away to West Brom. The North London club went into the international break on the back of a superb 2-0 victory over league leaders Manchester City. The pressure was on Pochettino before the season started. The third place finish last season was hugely disappointing for the fans and the team, therefore they expected the team to kick on this season and get the title that they narrowly missed last time around.

Harry Kane is still missing from the squad, therefore the team is only going to get better. At the Hawthorns, it was the former Spurs player Nacer Chadli who looked to have won the game for the home team with an 82nd-minute strike. However, Spurs came back to rescue a point from a Dele Alli late equalizer. Here is how the Tottenham players rated in this match.

Hugo Lloris 7

The Tottenham captain didn’t have a lot to do during the full 90 minutes but could have done better in the situation which led to Nacer Chadli’s goal. However, it was an outstanding save from the Frenchman which kept the initial shot out.

Jan Vertonghen – 7

Picked up an early yellow card, which shackled him in many ways. Wasn’t at his solid best but then he didn’t also do much wrong either. His presence in the centre is so vital to Tottenham’s defensive performance. Needs to better on defending set-pieces.

Toby Alderweireld – 6.5

Vertonghen’s compatriot didn’t look all there from the start, even before the injury forced him off. Although he started off brilliantly pinging balls forward from the back, he slowly faded away.

Ben Davies  8

One of the best performers on the night. Was solid while defending but what was impressive was how frequently he got forward and joined the attack. Unlikely not to be on the scoresheet.

Kyle Walker 6

One has come to expect Walker to be good every day but the English international looked lost going forward. Contributed close to zero in the final third but did make some important tackles and challenges at the back.

Victor Wanyama 7.5

A pretty solid performance by the summer arrival. Did his defensive duties to perfection, breaking up play whenever West Brom threatened to attack. Could be one of the most important signings of the summer.

Moussa Sissoko 5

Very average performance by the former Newcastle midfielder. Passenger for most parts of the game, before he was deservedly replaced by Dembele. Needs to improve significantly if he wants to keep his place in the starting XI.

Dele Alli 7

Alli rescued a point for Tottenham when a defeat looked all but certain. Leveled the score late on with a beautiful side-footed finish but if he was more clinical on the day, he could have easily won the match for Tottenham. Missed a glorious one on one chance to put Spurs ahead.

Eric Lamela 7

Again a very subdued performance by the Argentine. He has been in a fine touch under Pochettino but this wasn’t his day.

Vincent Janssen 7

Tottenham fans are desperately waiting for the Dutch striker to score. Would have been disappointed not to have got on the scoresheet but none the less did a fantastic job of holding the ball up for his teammates, who unfortunately couldn’t take advantage of the situation.

Christian Eriksen 6

Tottenham fans have started expecting a lot from Eriksen, however, he failed to impose himself on the game, even though Tottenham had majority of the possession. It was until the dying moments that he tested Foster with an excellent free kick.
