Former Liverpool star and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has lauded Tottenham for their performance this season and has claimed that this Spurs team are too good not to win trophies.

Tottenham closed the gap on league leaders Chelsea to 4 points after the Blues lost to Manchester United at Old Trafford. Tottenham had beaten Bournemouth the previous day and hence the gap was reduced from 7 points to just 4. Spurs seem to be having a great momentum as their recent form has been brilliant, with the Lilywhites recording 4-0 wins over Watford and Bournemouth.

On the other hand, Chelsea have struggled badly in recent weeks as they have endured losses against Crystal Palace and Manchester United.

However, the Blues will be hoping to arrest the slide and hold on to the 4 point advantage that they have over their London rivals.

The London teams face off this week, in the FA Cup semifinals and the outcome of the game could be massive as it would set the mood for the rest of the Premier League campaign.

But Tottenham seem to be the team on the roll and Carragher rightly pointed it out. Carragher said:

“If I’m in Tottenham’s shoes, this week is all about the FA Cup. It’s a chance for this team to win a trophy. This team is too good not to win things. You love watching them, you want to see them do well; the players they’ve got, young English players, the manager. It will just be a travesty if in two or three years they haven’t won something. They have to go and win the FA Cup.”

Carragher, also believes Spurs have a genuine shot at the title, but must cut the deficit to less than three points to put the pressure on their London rivals at Stamford Bridge. He added:

“If Spurs can turn that lead from four points to two – four points is still two games – if you can get it where it is actually one game, where it’s every single game is going to make a difference, that’s when you can see real pressure put on Chelsea.”

Carragher’s colleague, Gary Neville reflected the Liverpool man’s opinion and said that Chelsea would suffer mentally if they lost the FA Cup game against Spurs. Neville said:

“I think Chelsea should get over the line but if there is a reduction in the gap to two points I think Chelsea would be under significant pressure and they would be in trouble. I think when you’ve let a ten-point lead go down to two, you’ve got a completely different mentality. When you lose momentum at this time of the season, momentum is everything, the legs go, they’re heavy, the mind goes, you make mistakes.”

The FA Cup semifinal could be the decider of this domestic season and with Tottenham having the momentum going into the game, the Spurs faithful would be eagerly hoping for a good result.
