We have been linked with a lot of players this summer and some big names were mentioned as well. I will not be surprised if we end up landing a big player this window. We need such players in our squad and that is probably what we need to go one step beyond and win the league title that has been eluding us for a long time.
The latest name to be linked with us is Real Madrid superstar James Rodriguez. However, the news is that we are not ready to match the £66million asking price of the Colombian attacker.
Spanish news outlet El Confidencial has run an extended feature on the future of Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez. Along with the usual suspects, Tottenham Hotspur have found their name thrown into the mix as well. The paper is not prone to hyperbole or transfer tittle-tattle, so they were quick to state that we were not going to get anywhere near the £66million asking price. But it makes for interesting reading, doesn’t it?
James Rodriguez would be the kind of arrival that would take us far beyond being just mere challengers. He’d be the missing piece in our title challenge. As much as I hate to admit, our performance in the Champions League has been disappointing. We need to improve on that front as well and signing Rodriguez would be the perfect solution for it.
Signing a player of his calibre for such a huge price would send a strong message to the other big clubs who are trying to lure our players away. It would completely change the scenario in the English league.
However, with the report stating that we are nowhere near to meeting the asking price, and knowing what kind of person Daniel Levy is, it would be safe to say that we will not go for James Rodriguez this summer. But, if the club hierarchy decides to display Tottenham’s intent, it wouldn’t be surprising to see James Rodriguez don the Whites of London.
