Tottenham Look To Sign Long-term Arsenal Target Amid Dier Exit Rumours

published :

Not a transfer window goes by without the mention of William Carvalho. The Portuguese midfielder is the toast of transfer rumours ever since David Moyes took charge of Manchester United. The reported transfer to Old Trafford did not materialize and the Scot is no longer in charge but the rugged midfielder finds himself linked with multiple clubs every single window.

The latest club to join this bandwagon is Tottenham Hotspur. The North London club is reported by media sources from Portugal (A Bola) to be ready to snap the midfielder from Sporting Lisbon. Interestingly, the last club to have been linked with Carvalho was Arsenal and so Tottenham’s interest comes as a little surprise.

There is nothing from the Spurs’ camp to suggest that this interest could become concrete. One reason could be the fact that Eric Dier continues to be linked with a move away from the White Hart Lane – particularly to Old Trafford. So far, the club has shown enough resolve to rebuff any enquiries but there is a growing concern that if the price is right, Tottenham may find it difficult to resist.

If they do and if Dier ends up moving to Manchester United, Tottenham will be in the market looking for a replacement. Signing a player like Carvalho could just be the right move in those circumstances.

How true can this rumour be? Apart from the first transfer window where he was linked with United, Carvalho is a regular in the Arsenal transfer rumours mill. Arsene Wenger is reportedly a huge fan although the Gunners have not made an official bid ever.

Linking him with arch rivals Tottenham will surely antagonise Arsenal fans although their interest may no longer be active. Carvalho’s representatives have fanned up interest from English clubs in the past to drive a bigger bargain for the player. This link could be eerily similar and don’t be surprised if Carvalho ends up signing a new deal with Lisbon.
