As we move closer to the deadline day, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to tie down a deal for Ross Barkley, making it an interesting couple of days to the deadline day.
Spurs right now are weighing up whether to match rivals Chelsea’s bid for Ross Barkley or let go of their long-term target, as per reports from the Evening Standard.
It was a surprise that the Blues made the first move for the unsettled Everton midfielder as Spurs made all the running throughout the summer. The Toffees’ astronomical valuations deterred the club but it was thought that he would eventually move to the White Hart Lane.
However, Chelsea’s desperation to add bodies meant that they took the first step for Barkley tabling a £25million bid, which was rejected by Everton (Mirror). The Merseyside club were looking to get £50million for the England international who is into the final year of his contract, but have now realised that they might have to accept a much lesser offer.
Spurs are also worried about the fact that Barkley is currently injured and will not be available for immediate action. This hasn’t deterred the Blues though and it remains to be seen if Spurs enter the bidding.
One more player close to joining the club this summer is Paris Saint-Germain defender Serge Aurier. The Ivory Coast international was linked with multiple Premier League clubs but it looks like Spurs have won the battle.
Aurier is expected to join in a £23million deal from PSG but the deal for the 24-year-old had been held up due to Home Office clearance, but now that he has been granted a work permit, the deal could be announced soon.
The club have already confirmed the arrival of 19-year old defender Juan Foyth from Argentine side Estudiantes. The Argentina youth international had been a subject of interest for the North Londoners, but the transfer had been complicated by the interest of Paris Saint-Germain. Foyth has signed a deal until the summer of 2022.
Talking of the exit door, the club is ready to listen to offers for fringe players. Kevin Wimmer has already been shipped off to Stoke City for a hefty profit. Vincent Janssen and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou – both just one-year old at the club – have attracted interest and could move. Although Moussa Sissoko has claimed on social media that he would not leave, the club is open to offers for him as well.
